The Callaho Team members are all central to our endeavours as breeders of world-class sport horses. On the Stud farm, as well as at our competition yard in Johannesburg and our breeding nucleus in Germany, an experienced and highly capable team of horsemen and women ensure that no stone is left unturned in our quest to place Callaho on the cutting-edge of international Warmblood breeding.
Grant Store
Grant StoreStud Manager
Grant was born in Cape Town in 1960 and attended Kimberley Boys High School. He served in the South West African Specialist Unit (SWA SPEC) where he patrolled on horseback with the Mounted Infantry. On completion of his National Service he enrolled at the Witwatersrand Association of Racing Clubs in Alberton as an apprentice farrier.

After a few years in the private sector, Grant rejoined the SADF’s Potchefstroom Equestrian Centre as a farrier and, later, officer-in-charge of the Military Veterinary Institute. While there he completed the Advanced Riding Course and was awarded provincial colours in Dressage and Polocrosse. He returned to the private sector as a farrier and riding instructor until the passing of his wife, Barbara, after which he took up his current position as Callaho’s Stud Manager.

Besides 34 years’ experience in farriery, Grant is also a Level Two Riding Instructor and National Panel Dressage Judge, and has done courses in equine artificial insemination and equine dentistry. His interests include adventure motor cycling, archery, hunting and sport shooting. Grant has two sons, Dwayne, who also practices farriery, and Kyle who is a software developer, both excellent horsemen – as well as a grandson, Mathew, who has also inherited his grandfather’s passion for horses and the outdoors.

 Chantelle McCabe
Chantelle McCabeBreeding Manager and Administration
Chantelle is Pretoria born and bred. She matriculated at St. Mary’s Diocesan School for Girls in 1997 and her love of animals led to her pursuing a career in horses, one of her greatest passions. Chantelle attained her National Diploma in Equine Science, doing her practical year in Ireland as Stable Manager at a Stud / Riding school, where she also completed the International Centered Riding Instructor Level 1 qualification.

After her return to South Africa, Chantelle worked at a riding school in Kyalami while completing her (SANEF) Level 1 Instructors qualification. She also served as Principal at The Plettenberg Equestrian Academy for four years.

In 2012 Chantelle became part of the Callaho team, as Breeding Manager. She plays an integral part in the logistical preparations for the annual auction, and also runs the administrative side of the stud. Chantelle is also currently completing her National Diploma in Rehabilitation in horses & dogs through the College of Animal Physiotherapy in the UK.

Chantelle loves the outdoors, camping, kayaking and cycling. Besides riding, she also competes at international level in Sports Martial Arts.

Marike Swanepoel
Marike SwanepoelStable Manager and Assistant Stud Manager
Marike was born in Bothaville, a small town in the Free State. She grew up in an agricultural environment on the family farm and developed a passion for animals, especially horses. She matriculated from Wolmaransstad High School and went on to complete an Internal Auditing Diploma through the Vaal Triangle Technikon. However, she soon found that book keeping and office work were not for her, and from July 2001 to August 2002 she went to America where she worked at West Wind stables as a groom, with American Saddlebreds. Between 2003 and 2006 she was back in South Africa, at Rathmor Stud, where she worked with Thoroughbreds and Warmbloods. In July 2008 she joined the Callaho team.

Marike is an integral part of the Callaho team and she is a walking database of all the horses to be found at the stud and even those sold off over the years.

Marike has completed the Argus Cycling Tour and is an avid reader. In her spare time she does Warmblood genetic and pedigree research and loves riding her stud horse, Le Grand.

Megan Labuschagne
Megan LabuschagneAssistant Stable Manager.
Megan was born in 1994 in Benoni. Her love of horses began from a young age and progressed steadily over the years. After matriculating in 2012 – instead of pursuing a career in Fine Art as planned; she decided to do her National Diploma in Equine Science at Tshwane University of Technology while working at a local tack shop. Her practical year lead her to working at a local riding school as well as a Friesian and Lusitano Stud. Her time at the stud piqued her interest in breeding procedures which lead her to completing a DEFRA approved AI course in the UK.

Megan still enjoys painting/drawing in her free time as well as reading, spending time with friends and riding.

In 2017 she became Assistant Stable Manager and is responsible for the care and wellbeing of the external/veld horses. She also schedules and oversees the farriers’ visits and the everyday handling of the foals and weanlings.

Johnny Smith
Johnny SmithMedical Manager
Johnny is responsible for all medical issues relating to both horses and staff, such as liaison with doctors and veterinarians, preventative medicine such as inoculations and dipping, as well as pest control and medication control. Johnny is also the Occupational Health and Safety Officer for the stud.

Johnny was born in the small town of Hoopstad, in the Free State. He was educated in the local school in Christiana and at Grey College, and was always passionate about caring for people and animals. During his 2006 school holiday Johnny worked part-time at Callaho as a member of the veld or field team, which oversees all horses outside of the training section and performs post-veterinary nursing care. A year later he was offered a full-time position as assistant stable manager, a position he held until 2012 when he was promoted to the position of medical manager.

Johnny enjoys the outdoors, meeting new people and making friends, as well as participating in novel activities. He also enjoys travel and spending time with his own animals, of which his Friesians are his pride and joy.

Shadrack Moeng (Ace)
Shadrack Moeng (Ace)Senior Supervisor/Foreman at Callaho Stud
Shadrack, also known as Ace, was born on the farm and was also schooled here up to Standard 5. His father was also a senior foreman for Agrivan / Callaho and so it was natural for Ace to follow in his footsteps. He completed Grade 11 in Boshof and then returned to start working on the farm.

Shadrack has worked in all of the different sections at Callaho, thus making him the most versatile and experienced staff member. His favourite section is breeding, where he currently assists in addition to his management duties.

Ace is married with two children- a boy of 4 years and a girl of 7, and enjoys soccer and watching movies. Shadrack is one of the happiest, most positive members of the team, and although firm he is also very fair. He is well liked and respected by all of the Callaho staff members.

Rainer Korber
Rainer Korber Professional Rider
Rainer was born in Johannesburg and is co-owner of Korber Equestrian stable yard and Equine Walker SA, together with his wife, Jeanne. He is a full-time professional rider and instructor. He served his apprenticeship in 2003 with Ben Maher in England and the Clarks in Ireland, and is a qualified SANEF and FEI level 3 instructor.

Rainer has been part of the Callaho Stud team for 12 years. Some of Rainer’s top horses include Callaho Forlandus, Callaho Lansink, Callaho Egalite and Clouny 3 which are all competing very successfully in the 1.30m-1.60m classes.

Rainer’s achievements include winning the Burlington Cup in 2009 and 2012, winning the 1.50m Victor Ludorum at the SA Derby in 2013, and winning the SA Riders Championships in 2013. Rainer has consistently been in the top 10 SA Rider rankings the last couple of years.

Carl Boonzaaier
Carl Boonzaaier Professional Rider
Carl matriculated at Hoërskool Waterkloof in Pretoria and went on to study Financial Management at the University of Pretoria. He rode in the UK and Turkey for a while before returning to South Africa to start his own equestrian business. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Karlien, for 8 years.

Carl has been riding for Callaho for 8 years and currently competes on Callaho stallions Corinth and Casparon. Carl’s two top horses currently are Dino and Cardoso WH, both competing in the open classes. He competed in his first Derby on Cardoso WH in 2014 and was 2nd on Dino in the Mini Derby in 2014. His greatest achievements have been to win the Burlington Cup in 2012, the 1* event at ICB, Northern Farms and Shongweni, and being placed 3rd at the 2* event at Oaksprings.

Govett Triggol
Govett TriggolProfessional Rider
Govett is a chartered accountant by profession and is the CEO and shareholder in a utility efficiency business. He is married to Tracey and has two children (Cayleigh and Tom) – all of whom are passionate about riding.

Show jumping is a passion and an ambition for Govett and he has been riding most of his life, He has competed at international level (1m50) for 8 years – currently on the three Callaho mares – the 15 year old black mare Callaho Elektra , Callaho Balabushka (a nine year old) and Callaho C–Ultra (ten years old).

Govett’s major recent show jumping achievements include: Winner Presidents cup March 2014 (on C-Ultra), placed in World cup qualifiers 2014 (in Port Elizabeth and Polokwane – Callaho Balabushka), winner of the SA Riders championships in 2012 and 3rd place in 2013 (both on Callaho Louisa), winner of GHS championship 2013, KZN Grand Prix 2013, Riders Grand Prix Polokwane 2013 (Callaho Elektra). At close of 2014 Govett was ranked in the top 10 riders in RSA.

Clare Marcus Maloney
Clare Marcus MaloneyCompetition Rider
Clare was born in Zambia in 1968 and together with her parents moved to Carletonville in 1969. Clare from a very early age competed in Showing, Dressage, Equitation, Carriage Driving, Side Saddle and a bit of Showjumping, but Showing and Dressage have always been her passion. Due to a very bad Carriage Driving accident, Clare had to give up on the idea of pursuing a Dressage career, but continues with enormous success in the Show Arena. Clare produces Thoroughbred, Warmblood, Appaloosa, Arabian and Partbred Welsh Ponies for the show arena.

Together with her mother “Monica Marcus”, they run the well known stable yard in Potchefstroom called Windrush Equestrian. Clare is a RPL Qualified Instructor and is a National Panel Showing Judge.

Clare has been involved with Team Callaho for the past 5 years, and has become part of the Competition Team at the beginning of 2017 riding Callaho Lissabon. Team Windrush is also the turn-out Team for the annual Callaho Auction.

Clare’s successes over the years include:
13 x winner of the Overall Supreme Ridden Horse of the Year.
3 x winner of Showing Derby.
3 x winner of SA Adult Showing Champs Supreme Ridden Show Horse
24 x SA National Arabian Horse titles.

Ivana Callender-Easby
Ivana Callender-EasbyCompetition Rider
Ivana, known to her friends and family as Evi, was born and bred on the Callaho Stud Farm in May, 1992.

Evi went to boarding school in the Midlands, where she learned to ride with Sarah de la Hey. At the age of 15, Evi moved to Forsyte Stud, under the guidance of Grant and Carla Langley where she debuted on the competitive scene, ultimately being selected to represent Kwa-Zulu Natal in Showjumping in 2009 and 2010 as a junior.

After which, Evi took a gap year and moved back home to the Free State where she worked as a rider for Callaho in 2011 and 2012. Taking the scenic route through university whilst ensuring she spends more than adequate amounts of time riding her horses, Evi is completing her degree in Interior Design.

Evi and the apple of her eye, Callaho’s Carnaval La Silla ride and train under Top SA Showjumping Duo, Barry and Lorette Knowles-Taylor and have ended this year jumping in the open classes together.

Carnaval, “The Professor” has been “a horse of a lifetime” for Evi, and she cannot wait for what is still in store for them in the remainder of their competitive years together.

Lucas Goitsimodimo Seleke
Lucas Goitsimodimo Seleke Assistant Stud Foreman
Lucas was born on the 26 September 1981 in Warrenton. The youngest child of a family of four, Lucas passed Grade 11 at the Mogomotsi Secondary School. Lucus’s father also worked for us for many years and Lucas spent many school holidays assisting his father around the farm. This paved the way for the obvious transition from scholar to groom. Walking in his dad’s footsteps, Lucas officially started working at Callaho in 2006, and due to his sober habits, hard work and ethical conduct, he was soon promoted as a permanent manager in the stable management department, as well as assistant to the Stud Foreman.

Lucas speaks English, Afrikaans, and of course his native tongue Setswana, fluently and has two sons (three and seven years of age).

He enjoys reading and listening to the radio, especially with regards to news and current affairs. He is also an avid soccer fan.
